Heatwave Reshapes Sourcing: Cooling & Quick-Dry Knit Fabrics Take The Lead

   Since early August, extreme heat across China has pushed temperatures past 40°C. The first question overseas buyers now ask is no longer "FOB price?" - it has become "Are you a custom knitted fabric factory that can deliver cooling & quick dry knitted fabric on time?" Keywords like cooling-touch, quick-dry and antibacterial are being asked about several times more often than the same period last year.
    How hot is the cooling-fabric wave? Platform data shows search volumes up more than 200% year-on-year, and many large mills have pushed order lead times out to 7–15 days. Ice silk, quick-dry honeycomb knit, Modal and lightweight combed cotton are all running hot. But behind the order boom, the workshop is on the back foot: knitting machines run 24 hours a day, dye vats must operate at high temperature, and shop-floor temperatures run 3–5°C higher than outdoors. Knitters and dyers face heat-stroke risks, yarn breakages climb, color shade drift and harsh hand feel show up more often, and the reject rate goes up across the board. Being able to ship passable quality out of a workshop that feels like a furnace has become the hard threshold for taking new orders.
    Ningbo Jinlin Knitting has been taking orders at a more measured pace. The bamboo fiber knitted fabric (bamboo-blend cooling base layer) and the Milano cotton quick-dry homewear line have been in continuous shipment this summer, and are now core stock for the summer-to-autumn handover. Extreme weather this year has pushed functional fabrics from "optional" to "must-have" - mills that laid out functional finishing lines early are eating more of this order surge.
