Advantages of 100 Polyester Fabric

01/

Colorfast with vibrant print results

Polyester holds color extremely well. Whether you choose a bold all over print or a soft pastel shade, the colors remain vibrant even after frequent washing or exposure to sunlight.

02/

Wrinkle resistant and shape retaining

Polyester hardly wrinkles. Garments or fabrics made from polyester keep their shape well and rarely need ironing.

03/

Long lasting durability

Polyester is known for its strength and resistance to wear. The fabric lasts a long time, even with frequent use and regular washing.

04/

Lightweight and breathable

Although polyester is a synthetic fiber, many modern versions are surprisingly breathable. The fabric feels light on the skin and effectively wicks away moisture, making it comfortable to wear even in warm weather or during physical activity. This makes it perfect for sportswear.

05/

Quick drying and moisture wicking

Polyester absorbs very little moisture, which means it dries quickly.

06/

Excellent insulation

Polyester provides good insulation. Combined with other materials, it is often used in warm clothing such as sweaters, hoodies, and jackets.

Applications of 100 Polyester Fabric

Fashion and apparel: Polyester material clothes like leggings, jerseys, and outerwear are favored for their moisture-wicking ability and durability.

Home textiles: Its wrinkle resistance and strength make polyester ideal for everyday home items like curtains, rugs, bed linens, and upholstered furniture.

Industrial applications: Resilience under stress means polyester is often used in fiberfill fibers, ropes, conveyor belts, seatbelts, and insulation.

Print-on-demand apparel: Polyester’s smooth surface makes it an excellent canvas for sublimation printing, allowing for sharp, long-lasting designs.

Types Of Polyester Fabrics

Ethylene polyester — Also known as PET, this is the most common type you’re likely to encounter on the market.

Plant-based polyester — This uncommon type of polyester is biodegradable, making it one of the more preferable types to use because it has less of an ecological footprint.

PCDT polyester — This type is a bit like PET, however it has more elastic properties. It’s more suited to home furnishings, for example, pillow cushions or curtains.

Within these three types, there are common blendings of polyester fabric that you can utilise for different effects in your sewing projects. Including:
Fleece polyester — Along with fleece fabric, this soft, cosy variant feels very warm and is commonly used for winter-weather garments including jumpers, hats and blankets.

Twill Polyester — An effective type of suit fabric, this variation utilises a diagonal weave pattern and is good for making durable tailored garments such as trousers, jackets and skirts.

Satin polyester — Polyester combines with satin fabric for a smooth, shiny and elegant finish. Ideal for formal wear, or for lining fabrics.

Chiffon & georgette polyester — With chiffon & georgette fabric, you can create delicate, light clothes with a coarse texture. Popular examples include scarves, blouses and flowy dresses.

Jersey polyester — For stretchy, smooth and comfortable gym wear or jumpers, jersey & stretch fabric is an ideal material to match it up with.

Manufacturing process of 100 Polyester Fabric

Polymer creation

The process begins with petroleum-derived chemicals that are chemically reacted to form polyethylene terephthalate (PET), creating a molten polymer that serves as the base material for polyester fibers.

Melting and extrusion

The PET polymer is heated until it melts, then pushed through tiny holes called spinnerets. As the material exits these holes, it forms long, continuous filaments.

Cooling and solidifying fibers

These filaments are rapidly cooled and solidified, turning them into stable polyester fibers with consistent thickness and strength.

Drawing and stretching

The fibers are stretched to align the polymer molecules, which significantly increases tensile strength, elasticity, and durability.

Spinning into yarn

The finished fibers are then cut or kept as filaments and spun into yarns suitable for knitting or weaving.

Fabric formation and finishing

Finally, the yarns are knitted or woven into polyester fabric and treated with finishing processes such as dyeing, heat-setting, or surface treatments before being used in garment production.
