Manufacturing process of 100 Cotton Mesh
Fiber Preparation and Cleaning
Ginning: Raw cotton bolls are processed through a gin to separate the lint (fiber) from seeds, dirt, and plant debris.
Opening and Cleaning: Bale openers and cleaning machines break up compressed cotton bales, blending them for uniformity and removing remaining debris.
Carding/Combing: The cleaned cotton is carded to straighten fibers and align them, often followed by combing to remove short fibers, resulting in a stronger, smoother yarn.
Spinning (Fiber to Yarn)
Ring Spinning: For high-quality mesh, ring-spun yarn is preferred as it is stronger and smoother.
Drawing and Roving: The carded sliver is stretched and twisted into a finer, stronger yarn.
Winding: The yarn is wound onto large cones, inspected for defects, and spliced.
Fabric Formation (Knitting)
Weft Knitting: The yarn cones are loaded onto knitting machines. Unlike woven fabric, mesh is typically knitted to allow for natural stretch and elasticity.
Circular Knitting: Commonly used to create tubular mesh fabrics, which are efficient for manufacturing sportswear or base layers.
Structure Adjustment: The machine needles are set to create the open spaces (or "meshes") that define the fabric’s breathability.
Wet Processing (Dyeing and Treating)
Singeing: The knitted fabric passes through a gas flame at high speed to burn off surface fuzz, reducing pilling.
Scouring and Bleaching: A hot alkaline bath removes natural waxes and impurities (scouring), followed by hydrogen peroxide to achieve a clean white base (bleaching).
Dyeing: Reactive dyes are generally used, ensuring good color fastness.
Finishing Processes
Stentering (Heat Setting): The damp, knitted mesh is stretched on a frame and passed through a hot oven (120–150 °C) to dry, set the final width, and improve dimensional stability.
Compacting/Sanforizing: Because knits tend to shrink, the fabric is passed through a compactor to pre-shrink it, reducing post-wash shrinkage to roughly 1%–5%.
Softening: Cationic softeners are often applied to give the mesh a soft, comfortable hand-feel.
Inspection and Packing
Inspection: The finished mesh is inspected for faults, weight consistency, and proper mesh size.
Final Inspection: The fabric is rolled, packed, and shipped.
